CCRN and PCCN Renewal by Synergy CERPs Implemented in January 2007

Renewal by Synergy CERPs is a new program which integrates the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care into AACN Certification Corporation renewal programs. The changes are aimed at making certification and recertification requirements more consistent in framework and emphasis, and better preparing certificants for the future.

The new renewal program will mainly affect currently certified CCRNs and PCCNs. Although the number of CERPs required (100 in a 3-year period) will not change, category names, definitions and weight required will be changing. A dual CERP process will be in place until January 2010. Certificants will have the option to use the current CERP program or the new Renewal by Synergy CERP program when the current Renewal by CERP program will be phased out and replaced by the Renewal by Synergy CERPs program. This program will not impact the option to renew by exam. Following is the timeline for implementation of the Renewal by Synergy CERPs program:

  • January 2007 - Implementation of Renewal by Synergy CERPs
  • January 2010 - Current Renewal by CERPs program phased out
