Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam Now Available

AACN Certification Corporation has launched the ACNPC™, an advanced practice certification examination for Acute Care Nurse Practitioners. The examination is a three-and-a-half hour, computer-based test consisting of 175 multiple-choice items. More information is available in the ACNPC Handbook posted on this site.

Computer-based testing for the ACNPC exam is now being offered at Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) testing sites nationwide.

Like any new provider of an advanced practice certification examination used as a proxy measure for APRN licensure or designation, AACN Certification Corporation will need to be approved on a state-by-state basis. We are currently in the process of seeking approval from individual boards of nursing. Please check with your state board of nursing to make sure ACNPC exam certification meets your state's requirements for advanced practice designation or licensure. The following states have already approved the exam: Alabama, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Utah.

Although ACNPC certification is not required in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, and Oregon, the credential provides an opportunity for advanced practice nurses to further enhance and validate their skills and knowledge, as well as allowing for reimbursement for services provided by Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
