Education - The Foundation of NTI
The National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition® (featuring the
Advanced Practice Institute-API), is AACN's premier clinical education program,
providing acute and critical care nurses with six full days of opportunities for
learning. The program encompasses a wide range of topics related to the care of
acutely and critically ill patients, nursing practice, professional development
and the latest trends in healthcare.

Educational Content Areas
NTI and API offer facilitated learning in classroom settings, lectures and technical
exhibits, poster sessions and self-study. Participants will have the opportunity
to pursue areas of specialized content and professional development concentration
in these 12 categories:

Self-Study Pavilion

In addition to preconferences, concurrent and mastery sessions, the popular Self-Study
Pavilion offers a unique way to earn continuing nursing education credit through
independent self-study. Participants can earn up to 4.0 contact hours per day in
the Pavilion, which is comprised of two areas.
Learning and Mobile Resources Lab
Step into the new E-Learning and Mobile Resources Lab where you will experience
many of AACN's E-Learning resources, such as Basic ECG, Essentials of Critical Care
Orientation (ECCO) and Essentials of Nurse Manager Orientation (ENMO). You'll also
explore more than 30 audio/slide CD-ROM presentations by NTI speakers, certification
review courses, NTI posters and more. Learn all about how Personal Digital Assistants
(PDAs) and iPod mobile devices enable you to enjoy AACN video and CD-ROM resources
on the go. Explore dozens of nurse-related PDA software programs using a "virtual"
PDA that functions just like an actual device.
Independent Study Lab and Library
Relax in the library while studying more than 100 AACN educational catalog resources,
including books, audio CDs and clinical simulation CD-ROMs.

Distinguished Research Lecture
Anna Gawlinski
The Power of Clinical Nursing Research: Engage Clinicians, Improve Patients' Lives
and Forge a Professional Legacy

Anna Gawlinski is the recipient of the 2008 AACN Distinguished Research Lecture
Award, which honors a nationally known researcher who has made a significant contribution
to acute and critical care nursing research. Gawlinski's research focuses on the
conduct and dissemination of interventions that improve outcomes in acutely and
critically ill patients. As the director of evidence-based practice at UCLA Medical
Center, Gawlinski has developed an infrastructure that supports research and evidence-based
practice initiatives. Her ability to clarify difficult research concepts and apply
them in a meaningful way has helped clinicians improve patient care. Her knowledge
of research methodology and pragmatic approach to problem solving have energized
clinicians at all levels. The Distinguished Research Lecture will be on Monday,
2:15-3:30 PM.
